We’re proud to announce our latest client’s website using WordPress as a CMS.  Greenhouse Naturopathic Medicine in Hollis, NH was using a cumbersome, slow and hard to use CMS and it affected website usability, bounce rate and overall visitor site experience.  In addition to a more user-friendly site, Dr. Julia Greenspan wanted to add new functionality to make it easier for her patients to get in touch with her as well as inform them of valuable information regarding living a natural and healthy lifestyle.

Greenhouse’s new website is built on the very popular and widely-used WordPress platform, but in a CMS capability.  A CMS or content management system allows non-technical users to add and update content on their website without any prior coding or website experience.  It uses a word processor-like interface that is very familiar to people to easily add new pages, insert images or video and even add dynamic content all without typing a single line of code.  Every one of Easy Street Interactive’s client’s has a CMS incorporated into their site to allow for future expansion and the ability to save money on paying for third-party maintenance and update costs.

Once you understand what a sitelink is and how it can get you several link rankings within one listing for better visibility and more targeted results for your visitors, the next question should be ‘how do I get sitelinks listed on my website search results?’.  Well, Google isn’t giving away the answer. Matt Cutts doesn’t give us much besides saying that “our method is algorithmic and that no money is involved”. That being said, through research, trial and error and our client successes we have come up with a few common threads to help you achieve the almighty Google sitelinks in your SERP.

First, we are under the assumption that the website in question has a sufficient link structure to allow Google to notice prominent shortcuts it thinks its users would find useful.  If you want to learn more about link structure, you can check out Google Webmaster’s link architecture blog post.

Second, we found that the site has to be ranked number one in Google for that particular key phrase.  In our example above, it is the company name Healing Hands Chiropractic as well as their domain healinghandsnh.com.

Third, the site must have a consistent number of visits, although it doesn’t have to be a lot.  In our example above, our client is a local chiropractic wellness center in a less populated area.

Fourth, the website must have a high click through rate from the search results.  We also feel that the visitors average time and bounce rate may have minor factor as well.

Fifth, as with any good SEO campaign, the site needs to have a good number of inbound and outbound quality links from quality sites as well as deep linking, not just the home page.

Sixth, the domain has to have some age to it, at least a couple of years.

Seventh, all basic on-page SEO best practices never hurt either such as unique meta data, unique content & structure as well as creating a sitemap.

Note: these are just our observations and even if you follow these steps to the letter, it does not guarantee you anything.  We feel that using these best practices as a guide and following white hat SEO techniques, over time you will have a better chance then before reading this post.
